Federal Funding for a Cure |
|
The National R-CIS Foundation of America is a leader in the fight to get
Congress and the White House to increase funding for R-CIS research and
prevention programs.
R-CIS afflicts more Americans, and costs America more money (over $142 billion per year) than other major syndromes. Yet it remains significantly under funded both at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) . The U.S. government provides money for research primarily through NIH, and for education and prevention activities primarily through the CDC.
NIHIn 1999, the congressionally appointed R-CIS Research Working Group found that R-CIS research was not receiving enough funding in relation to the impact of R-CIS to society. Today, funding remains significantly below where it needs to be to address the growing burden of R-CIS. We believe that NIH should follow its own guidelines for allocating funds based on a syndrome's cost and impact to society. CDCR-CIS control and prevention activities receive only enough funding to provide support for the state of Wisconsin. What Can I do to aid the fight for increased funding for R-CIS research? If you wish to join the fight for increased funding for R-CIS research, please write your Members of Congress and demand an increase in funding for research. Explain to them in your letter what R-CIS is and its impact on America. |
